OMP is accepting a limited number of publishing submissions from 2 September to 14 October 2026. This first window will close earlier if we receive 50 submissions.
Other Minds Publishing is a small independent press based in Cumbria. We are looking for distinctive work concerned with history, memory and the ways political, social and philosophical questions enter ordinary lives.
What we are looking for
We are particularly interested in writers who reconsider a familiar event, argument, public figure, writer or inherited idea from an unexpected but well-supported position. We will consider adult non-fiction, literary fiction and work that crosses conventional boundaries where the writing and central purpose are clear.
- history and its consequences in ordinary lives;
- memory, remembrance and the relationship between private experience and public events;
- political, social or philosophical questions written for a general reader;
- critical studies of writers, thinkers, movements or influential texts;
- literary fiction rooted in historical, political or philosophical questions.
What we are not seeking
- general commercial fiction;
- poetry collections;
- children’s books;
- unfinished manuscripts;
- academic theses that have not been rewritten for a general readership.
How to submit
Please do not send a complete manuscript at the first stage. Email editorial@othermindspublishing.co.uk with the subject line SUBMISSION: Author – Title and attach one Word document containing:
- a covering letter explaining why the work belongs with OMP;
- a synopsis of no more than 1,000 words;
- the first 5,000 words or two chapters;
- a brief author biography;
- the intended readership;
- the manuscript’s completion status and total word count.
Files should be in .doc or .docx format and named Author_Title. We accept simultaneous submissions, but please tell us promptly if the manuscript is accepted elsewhere or withdrawn.
Response and selection
We will acknowledge receipt. If you have not received a further response within twelve weeks, please regard the submission as declined. Owing to the volume of material received, we cannot provide individual feedback on unsuccessful submissions.
Opening submissions does not commit OMP to acquiring any manuscript. We expect to publish no more than one or two works from this initial window and may decide that none is suitable for the list.
Publishing and editorial services are separate
OMP is not a vanity press. We do not charge authors to publish their books. Submissions are considered solely on their publishing merits.
Authors are never required to purchase editorial, design or production services. Using OMP Editorial does not confer preferential consideration, influence an acquisitions decision or improve the prospect of publication. A submission will not be used as a reason to market paid editorial services to its author.
Rights and privacy
Copyright remains with the author. Submission grants OMP no right to publish, reproduce or distribute the work beyond the internal copies reasonably required for confidential assessment.
We use the personal information and manuscript material supplied only to assess the proposal and correspond with the author. Material may be read by OMP’s editorial team or a confidential professional reader acting for OMP. Unsuccessful submission material will normally be deleted within six months of the decision, except where a limited record must be retained for administrative or legal purposes.
